Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) at Maruti Suzuki

Hey, I’m Harsh, a fourth-year engineering student from the class of 2024. I’ve always been passionate about web development and have achieved success in several hackathons. I have maintained a good academic record and was also a merit scholar in my second year. Apart from academics, I also have a keen interest in online gaming.

What was the procedure of the placement that took place? (Shortlisting criteria, coding or aptitude test, number of interviews)

It began with a leadership talk by Rajesh Uppal, a Thapar alum. Then the admission process commenced with: Round 1: Online Test Round 2: Interview

Tell us about the written/online test. (Aptitude, Coding, Test Platform, etc)

The assessment lasted for approximately two and a half hours, and I would say it was moderately challenging. The first part of the test focused on coding and C++ related questions, while the second and third parts concentrated on behavioral and human resources-related topics. The fourth and final section to assess our logical reasoning abilities and aptitude. There was ample time to review and answer each question.

Tell us about the interview round 1 including the questions that were asked.

We received an email containing a PowerPoint template instructing us to create a pitch deck for our interview. The deck covered our achievements, strengths, weaknesses, technical abilities, and more. During the interview, we were questioned about our PowerPoint and past internships. The interviewer was particularly interested in our teamwork and decision-making skills.

Tell us about the HR interviews, if any, specifying the number of rounds and questions asked.

It was a brief interview to assess our cultural fit within the company, asking basic questions such as why we chose Maruti and how it would benefit us.

What were the key factors of your selection?

I believe that my summer internship at Maruti Suzuki was the key factor in my selection. During the interview, I was asked many questions about my experience there. In addition, I always believe in having a clear understanding of the basics and being knowledgeable about everything written on your resume.

What are the things students should focus on, in order of priority?

Thoroughly prepare the core subjects of your branch. For COE, prepare: – C and C++ – DBMS – OS and computer networks Also, practice aptitude and logical reasoning questions regularly.

According to you, what role do extracurricular activities as well as participation in societies play?

If you don’t join societies, it’s fine, but if you do, it opens a lot more doors for you. Societies teach you how to interact with others and work in teams.
