Mentorship is More Than Just Advice

Written By: Raghav Chopra

Do you ever wonder how top students seem to have it all together? The secret often lies in mentorship.

Mentorship is More Than Just Advice.

Mentorship is about having a trusted guide—someone who has navigated the path you are currently on and wants to help you achieve your goals. For students, mentorship isn’t just about academic support; it’s about having someone in your corner who understands the challenges of balancing academics, social life, and future career aspirations. A mentor can provide perspective, guidance, and emotional support, making the journey smoother and more fulfilling.

Our founder Raghav Chopra started UnsaidTalks because..
Let’s hear his story in his own words:

During my third year at Thapar, I had the opportunity to connect with a few seniors . I frequently reached out to them for advice, and they provided invaluable insights into the recruitment process. They helped me understand what specific companies were looking for, and even shared insider tips based on their own experiences, especially from those working in the same companies that visited our campus.

When I sat for the Exl Analytics written test, there were 180 candidates, and only about 90 made it through to the next stage. After three rounds of interviews, the company selected just 13 students, and I was fortunate enough to be one of them. Despite not being a top-ranking student, I believe my selection was a result of focused preparation. I had a clear understanding of what Exl Analytics valued, thanks to my seniors’ guidance. For example, they advised me to concentrate on guesstimates and puzzles, which were crucial for the interview process. They also shared insights about the company’s operations that helped me tailor my preparations.

While other candidates certainly put in the effort, my preparation was more aligned with the company’s expectations, and that focus played a significant role in my success. I can attribute much of my achievement to the mentorship I received from those seniors, which gave me an edge over the competition.

Hence, through UnsaidTalks, I would like to help people with very relevant information that is relevant for them to crack the interviews for the companies they want to get placed in by connecting them with industry professionals who are working in those companies.

At UnsaidTalks, we connect students with our mentors who have walked similar paths and understand what it takes to succeed. Whether you’re struggling with academic pressure, unsure about your career path, or looking for personal growth, mentorship can make a significant impact.

Here’s why mentorship matters for students:

Practical Guidance for Real-World Success:

Students often struggle to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world application. That’s where a mentor steps in, offering practical advice to help you navigate both academics and future careers. Here’s how mentors can make a difference:

  • Real-World Application: Help you apply what you learn to actual situations.
  • Job Search: Offer guidance on resumes, interviews, and career strategy.
  • Teamwork: Share tips on working effectively in groups.
  • Time Management: Provide strategies for balancing deadlines and stress.
  • Smart Decisions: Guide you in making informed academic and career choices.
Emotional Support During Challenging Times:

College life isn’t always about academic success. The personal growth you experience during this time can often feel overwhelming. From dealing with self-doubt and mental health struggles to navigating the pressures of exams, having a mentor can make a big difference in your emotional well-being.

A mentor doesn’t just listen to your problems—they offer perspective, advice, and motivation when things seem tough. They remind you that setbacks are part of growth and help you maintain a positive mindset. Knowing that someone is genuinely invested in your success can help alleviate feelings of loneliness and self-doubt that many students experience.

Accountability and Motivation to Stay on Track:

With all the distractions of student life, it’s easy to lose focus. A mentor can help you stay accountable and motivated by offering guidance and support. Here’s how:

  • Accountability: Regular check-ins to track progress and keep you focused on your goals.
  • Goal Setting: Help you break down big goals into manageable, actionable steps.
  • Motivation: Encourage you to push through challenges, whether it’s a project, internship, or exam prep.
Career Opportunities and Networking:

Mentorship can also play a pivotal role in jumpstarting your career. Mentors often have valuable industry connections and networks that they can share with you. Whether it’s introducing you to hiring managers, recommending you for internships, or sharing insights about industry trends, mentors open doors that you might not have access to on your own.

At UnsaidTalks, we connect students with mentors who not only guide them through their academic journey but also help them build meaningful connections within their chosen field. These connections can lead to job opportunities, internships, and a clearer understanding of what you want in your career.
